MANILA, Philippines — Mandaluyong City has required the wearing of face shields on top of face masks in the city’s workplaces and public transportation.
In a memorandum dated August 17, Mayor Carmelita Abalos ordered barangay officials and police officers in the city to “ensure that all persons wear face shields in their workplaces, as well as in public transportation.
“You are hereby directed to ensure that all persons wear face shields along with face masks in all public and private offices and workplaces, and in all public transportation and conveyances,” Abalos wrote.
Face shields should cover the entire side and length of the face, she added.
Visor-type and half-mask type face shields are not allowed.
It shall only be removed when it is necessary “due to work demands” and “required by the occupational safety of the employee.”
Abalos cited the joint memorandum circular of the Department of Trade and Industry and the Department of Labor and Employment as well as the order of the Department of Transportation requiring the wearing of face shields.
