20 household members in Taguig test positive for COVID-19

MANILA, Philippines — Twenty members of a household in Barangay Katuparan, Taguig City have contracted the coronavirus disease (COVID-19), prompting the city government to place the said area under localized lockdown from Aug. 19 to Sept. 2.

“The unit reported that 20 members of the household tested positive, further noting that the topography around the residence and the living situation of the family can place more people at risk,” read the post on Taguig City government’s official Facebook page on Wednesday.

“Because of all these, they recommended an immediate lockdown. With the declaration of the localized lockdown, no one will be allowed into or out of the Katuparan address,” it added.

In another Facebook post, the city government said a workers’ quarters of the business establishment in Barangay Palingon-Tipas was also placed under localized quarantine from Aug. 19 to Sept. 2 after 18 employees tested positive for SARS-CoV-2, the coronavirus which causes the disease.

“The company conducted RT-PCR testing on 52 individuals, of which 18 turned out positive for COVID-19. As soon as the swab test results were released, the City Epidemiology and Disease Surveillance Unit (CEDSU) investigated the area and determined a cluster of infections, explaining the sudden surge of positive cases in the area,” read the post.

Under a localized lockdown, the workers’ quarters in the unidentified establishment will be cordoned off to prevent entry and exit of the facility.

The local government will also conduct further COVID-19 testing in the area to suppress the further spread of the virus.

The city government also vowed to provide food and other essential goods for those affected by localized lockdown.
