TAGBILARAN CITY—A two-year-old boy from Buenavista town in Bohol province on Tuesday (Aug. 18) was among seven new patients who tested positive for SARS Cov2, the virus that causes COVID-19, raising the province’s tally to 131.
On a Facebook post, Bohol Gov. Arthur Yap said the child was brought to Governor Celestino Gallares Memorial Hospital in this city on Monday night (Aug. 17) suffering from fever.
The boy’s family lives at the village of Buenavista. Authorities said the boy’s infection could be a case of local transmission because he had not been to any infected place.
Buenavista Mayor Dave Duallo said the community of Nangka in Buenavista was locked down while contact tracing is ongoing.
The boy is the town’s second COVID-19 patient and the youngest in Bohol.
Seven new cases were logged in the province in a single day on Tuesday. They were four residents of Malingin Island in Bien Unido, which has now 18 cases and is currently on lockdown.
The other patients are an overseas Filipino worker from Tagbilaran City and a stranded individual from the town of Danao.
The province has 131 COVID-19 cases with 99 recoveries and six fatalities.
