Eastern Visayas has 95 more COVID-19 cases

TACLOBAN CITY –– A total of 95 new cases of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) were recorded in Eastern Visayas on Monday, the highest single-day count in the region.

The Samar Provincial Hospital (SPH), announced that it would temporarily close its operation since a number of their health personnel were infected with the virus.

“We want to implore the deep understanding of the public since SPH will still be closed for admissions except for deliveries and life-threatening emergencies until further notice. This temporary closure is intended for contact tracing, quarantine of close contacts, and disinfection of the entire hospital,” it said.

John Paul Roca, information officer of the Department of Health in Eastern Visayas, said it is unfortunate that many health workers have contracted the virus.

“There is a high risk of contracting the deadly virus from the health workers since they are repeatedly exposed as they assume their duty in the health facility. That is why we emphasized the infection prevention control in the health facility,” he said.

“It is unfortunate that our health workers are infected. Let’s help them pray for their fast recovery,” Roca added.

He said 161 health workers from the region got infected with COVID-19. Of the number, 48 are active.

Eastern Visayas has 1,680 COVID-19 cases.
