‘Mega’ COVID-19 processing center to rise in Bataan

BALANGA CITY –– The Bataan government will build another processing center for the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) to address the surging cases that were traced to returning residents and repatriated overseas Filipino workers.

Bataan Gov. Albert Garcia said the “mega facility” would be put up in a 3-hectare lot in Orani town and was expected to be completed within the next two months.

Garcia said the 4-storey building would have at least 300 separate rooms with toilets for quarantine areas and is touted to be the biggest to rise in the province.

“The centralized processing facility that we have set up in Balanga City gets overwhelmed because the number of OFWs to Bataan increases by the day,” Garcia said in a statement.

Garcia said the sudden increase in COVID-19 cases was traced to local transmission in the villages due to the influx of returning overseas Filipinos, locally stranded individuals, and authorized personnel outside of residence.

To date, Bataan has at least 559 COVID-19 cases, 198 of which are active. The death toll is at 15 while recovery is at 346.
