Caloocan bans spitting in public places

MANILA, Philippines — People who spit in public places in Caloocan now face heavier penalties, after the city council passed an ordinance prohibiting “careless, deliberate and indiscriminate” spitting to reduce local transmission of the new coronavirus.

Under City Ordinance No. 11-111, violators face a fine ranging from P1,000 to P5,000, will be required to attend a health seminar conducted by the city health department or imprisonment of up to 60 days.

Spitting will be prohibited in public streets, alleys, sidewalks, parks, malls, markets, terminals, churches, schools, hospitals and other public places.
