Palace commemorates 75th anniversary of end of World War II
MANILA, Philippines — Malacañang on Saturday joined in the commemoration of the 75th anniversary of the surrender of Japan which also marked the end of World War II on Aug. 15, 1945.
In a statement, presidential spokesman Harry Roque cited the United Nations Charter which urges to retain peace and security worldwide.
“And for these ends, to practice tolerance and live together in peace with one another as good neighbors; and to unite our strength to maintain international peace and security,” Roque said, citing the UN Charter.
The Palace official also wished to have a “solemn, meaningful” remembrance of the occasion.
During the ceremony to mark the 75th anniversary of Japan’s surrender, Japan’s Emperor Naruhito vowed to reflect on wartime events, saying they will never be repeated.
