2 workers electrocuted during street light installation in Puerto Princesa

PUERTO PRINCESA CITY—Two workers suffered injuries after being electrocuted while installing street lights in McKinley Hills Subdivision at the village of Sicsican in this city on Friday (Aug. 14).

Claire Guludah, spokesperson of Palawan Electric Cooperative (Paleco), said that the workers—Edgar Mel Lojera and Sabsarim Sali—were electrocuted on the 69 kilovolt (kV) line past 5 p.m. The accident triggered a major power outage in the city which lasted until Friday night.

Lojera and Sali are employees of GSMAXX, a contractor in charge of the street light project of the local government.

Lojera, in an initial report, was said to have been in “critical condition” while Sali suffered serious injuries. The two were taken to the nearest hospital.
