DAGUPAN CITY –– A front-line health worker tested positive for the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) here on Thursday, breaking the city’s three-week record of zero infections.
The 32-year-old male front-liner from Mayombo village has been admitted to the Region 1 Medical Center right after the test results came out, said Dr. Ophelia Rivera, the city’s COVID-19 focal person.
He underwent the reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test on Wednesday because he was exposed to a COVID-19 patient.
He is the only active case in the city and the 41st confirmed case since March. Thirty-three of the confirmed cases had recovered from the disease while two had died.
Mayor Brian Lim ordered the expanded testing in the city, especially among high-risk individuals, to look for those affected by the virus so they could be isolated and treated immediately.
