TACLOBAN CITY –– A pregnant woman and a healthcare worker were among the latest victims of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Eastern Visayas.
The 18-year-old female patient is a resident of Santa Fe town in Leyte and confined at the Eastern Visayas Regional Medical Center (EVMRC).
The rural health unit of Santa Fe said the woman and her husband arrived at the town from Manila on August 2 and immediately brought to the quarantine facility.
However, on August 11, the woman had “premature labor pains,” prompting her husband to bring her to the EVRMC.
She was swabbed and later tested positive for COVID-19.
The virus also infected a 54-year-old nurse from Catarman town in Northern Samar.
The rural health unit of Catarman was shut down on Friday for disinfection. Other personnel of the facility will undergo swab testing to determine if they got the virus.
As of Friday, August 14, Eastern Visayas has 1,464, according to the Department of Health.
