Nograles wants ‘special concern lockdowns’ in 25 QC barangays
MANILA, Philippines — Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles, who was assigned to support Quezon City’s coronavirus disease (COVID-19) response, wants 25 barangays in the most populous city in the Philippines to be placed under “special concern lockdowns” because of the increasing number of coronavirus infections in their communities.
In an interview over ABS-CBN News Channel Friday, Nograles said he has submitted to the Quezon City government a list of barangays which could be placed under special concern lockdowns.
“Yung 25 barangays is based on nakita namin na pwedeng tawaging hotspots kasi tumataas ‘yung bilang ng COVID-19 cases for the last seven days and then tinignan din namin ‘yung (surge) for the last 14 days and tinignan namin ‘yung absolute number ano yung pinakamataas na barangays,” said Nograles, who is also co-chair of the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) on Emerging Infectious Diseases.
The Palace official acknowledged that the Quezon City government has already enforced special concern lockdowns of several areas and communities in a number of barangays such as Batasan Hills, Culiat, Fairview, Tatalon, Sauyo, Bahay Toro, Kamuning, Roxas, Bagbag, Baesa, and Kaligayahan.
But he added that the local government unit should also take a look at barangays like Tandang Sora, Commonwealth, Holy Spirit, Novaliches Proper, Pasong Tamo, Crame, Payatas, Socorro, Matandang Balara, Pinyahan, and San Roque.
Currently, the following areas in Quezon City are placed under special concern lockdown:

• 950 Interior, Aurora Blvd. in Mangga
• 113 Kamuning Road in Kamuning
• Sitio Ambuklao in Baesa
• Portion of Sitio Cabuyao 6A in Sauyo
• 72 Fulgencion Street, Sitio Lambak in Krus na Ligas
• 17 Isarog Street in Sta. Teresita
• Valencia Hills Condominium in Valencia
Quezon City has one of the highest COVID-19 caseloads in the country which currently stands at 8,240, including 5,756 recoveries and 338 fatalities.
Barangay Batasan Hills has recorded the most coronavirus infections with 363, followed by Commonwealth (284), Pasong Tamo (271), and Bahay Toro (270).
