ITCZ to bring rains in most parts of PH; new LPA seen east of Visayas — Pagasa

MANILA, Philippines — Cloudy skies and rains may be experienced over Southern Luzon down to Mindanao due to the prevalent intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ), the state weather bureau said on Thursday.

According to the 5 p.m. forecast of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), a new low pressure area (LPA) was also found within the ITCZ, and was last spotted 1,150 kilometers east of Visayas.

As of now, there is a low probability that the LPA progresses into a tropical depression within the next 24 hours, but Pagasa is still monitoring developments on the current weather disturbance.

Meanwhile, former Tropical Depression Gener has evaporated into an LPA and remains to have no direct effect on the country’s weather systems.

“Dahil pa rin sa epekto ng ITCZ, ang Bicol Region at ang Mimaropa ay patuloy pa ring makakaranas ng maulap na kalangitan na may kalat-kalat na mga pag-ulan, pagkidlat, pagkulog,” weather specialist Ariel Rojas said.

(Because of the ITCZ’s effect, Bicol Region and Mimaropa would continue to experience cloudy skies with occasional rains and thunderstorms.)

“Meron pa rin pong banta ng mga biglaang pagbaha at pagguho ng lupa dahil may okasyon pa rin ng malalakas na pagbuhos ng ulan kaya ibayong pag-iingat po ang ating paalala sa mga residente dyan sa Kabikulan at sa Mimaropa,” he added.

(There are dangers of flash floods and rainfall-induced landslides, that’s why we are advising residents of Bicol Region and Mimaropa to always observe extra precaution.)

Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon will experience a fair weather, which may be hot around noon and early afternoon.  However, rains are still possible by late afternoon and in the evening.

Temperatures in the capital region would play around 25 to 32 degrees Celsius, while rains may slightly bring colder temperature in Legazpi and Puerto Princesa, at 25 to 30 degrees and 25 to 31 degrees, respectively.

In Visayas and Mindanao, temperatures in Cebu and Tacloban may go as low as 24 degrees Celsius due to the rains, while it would be within 24 to 32 degrees in Davao, Zamboanga, and Cagayan de Oro.

No gale warning has been raised as sea condition is expected to be slight to moderate all around the country’s shores except in Visayas waters, where conditions may vary depending on thunderstorms.
