MANILA, Philippines—A policeman and his wife are facing carjacking charges after the motorcycle they drove in Manila Tuesday was found to be stolen, police said Wednesday.
Police Officer 3 Jay an Perturbos of the Manila Police District and his wife Janice are facing charges of violating the Anti-carnapping Act and the Anti-fencing Law, said Highway Patrol Group director Chief Superintendent Leonardo Espina.
Citing a report from the National Capital Region HPG, Espina said that Janice was flagged down along Hipodromo Street in Sta. Mesa, Manila Tuesday afternoon because the motorcycle she drove bore fake license plates.
Police later learned that she was the wife of a Manila police officer. Perturbos later claimed to be the owner of the motorcycle, the HPG said.
The couple offered to get the necessary documents to prove their ownership of the vehicle but they did not return to show the said papers, said Espina.
The motorcycle was stolen June 8 last year in Makati City, police said.
