CITY OF SAN FERNANDO –– More than 160 days since banning the entry of visitors, Aurora province has its first case of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in a woman from Pasay City.
Aurora Gov. Gerardo Noveras confirmed the sad news in a taped video that was broadcast on the province’s social media page.
In a phone interview, Noveras told the INQUIRER the woman was in her 50s and cared for young wards in Pasay City.
She went to Baler, Aurora’s capital, on Aug. 4 and quarantined herself at home. She was admitted to the Aurora Medical Hospital, also in Baler, due to stroke.
The patient was made to take a swab test because she had not completed the required 14-day quarantine period since coming to Aurora.
The province has been placed on modified general community quarantine, although it had no COVID-19 cases.
It is not clear if the woman is a native of Baler.
Laboratory results released on Aug. 12 detected SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19.
At least 20 people have been initially identified as having contacts with her, Noveras said. INQ
