MANILA, Philippines — President Rodrigo Duterte is expected to announce new quarantine classifications in the country on August 17, Malacañang said Thursday.
The modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) placed over Metro Manila, Rizal, Cavite, Bulacan, and Laguna are set to lapse on August 18.
“Inaasahan po natin magmemensahe sa taumbayan ang Presidente muli sa August 17 kung saan iaanunsyo rin nya kung ano yung mga quarantine classification,” presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said in an online briefing.
(We expect the President to address the nation on August 17 where he will announce new quarantine classifications.)
Roque said there were already new recommendations from the Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases for all provinces except the areas under MECQ.
He, however, did not disclose its new quarantine classifications.
Earlier, Roque said that extending MECQ in Mega Manila was “possible but highly unlikely,” citing the lack of funds for cash assistance to residents affected by the stricter lockdown.
