Lone gunman shoots, kills driver in busy PUV terminal in Cotabato town
PIKIT, COTABATO—A lone gunman shot and killed a van driver at a terminal for public utility vehicles here on Monday (Aug. 10).
Capt. Mautin Pangandigan, Pikit police chief, said the van driver, Magdaleno Gayola Dante Jr., 43, of Notre Dame Drive in Pikit, was waiting for passengers to fill his van when the gunman came and, without provocation, shot Dante.
The attack took place in broad daylight around 10:45 a.m., according to police.
Forensics officers found bullet casings for .45 caliber pistol at the crime scene.
Pangandigan said police are investigating to identify the motive for the attack and the assailant. Witnesses are now being questioned.
The attack had all the markings of impunity which was also put in focus during the killing of a school principal in the town, who had been receiving death threats. A lone gunman was also involved in the principal’s gangland-style execution.
