Motorcycle rider killed in Biliran road mishap

ORMOC CITY –– A motorcycle back rider died in an accident in Barangay Virginia, Culaba town in Biliran on Sunday.

Stevenson Asarcon, 22, lost consciousness after his head hit a concrete object, said Police Capt Isidro Ancero, chief of the Culaba Police Station.

Asarcon was rushed to the Rural Health Unit but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.

The 25-year-old driver of the motorcycle, Spencer Managaytay, and another back rider Joseph Areglo, 22, were wounded.

Ancero said the victims were on their way home after having a drinking session when they chose to pass on a secluded area to avoid checkpoints on the national highway.

“They knew pillion riding on motorcycles is not allowed in the town,” he said.

Ancero said the driver may have lost control of the motorcycle while traversing a slippery downhill road.
