MANILA, Philippines — Tropical Depression Ferdie has left the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) and is heading toward toward China, although rain showers, as well as flashfloods, landslides and rough sea conditions are possible or likely in affected areas in Luzon, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services (Pagasa) reported Monday morning.
In its 11 a.m. weather bulletin, the state weather bureau said TD Ferdie exited PAR at 9:00 a.m. with maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 70 kph.
It is moving north at 15 kph and is expected to make landfall over Fujian province in southeastern China on Tuesday morning.
Pagasa added that “Ferdie” is likely to reach the tropical storm category before eventually weakening into a low-pressure area after making landfall in China.
Pagasa said “Ferdie” and the enhanced southwest monsoon or “habagat” will bring rain showers over Ilocos region, Abra, Benguet, Zambales, Bataan, and occasional rains over Batanes, Cagayan, Metro Manila, Calabarzon, Mimaropa and the rest of Cordillera Administrative Region and Central Luzon.
The state weather bureau added that strong breeze-force to near gale-force winds are also expected in the Ilocos region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Metro Manila, Calabarzon and Mimaropa.
“Flooding and rain-induced landslide may occur during heavy or prolonged rainfall especially in areas that are highly or very highly susceptible to these hazards,” Pagasa said.
Gale warning is also raised over the seaboards of Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Zambales, Bataan, western coast of Batangas, western coast of Occidental Mindoro including Lubang Island, Calamian Islands, Batanes, Cagayan including Babuyan Islands, and Isabela, with waves expected to go as high as 2.5 meters to 4.5 meters.
