MANILA, Philippines — Manila Archdiocese apostolic administrator Bishop Broderick Pabillo on Sunday urged the faithful to show their love for the country by speaking up about the big issues in society, including the government’s response to the coronavirus pandemic.

“Let’s be alarmed because we love our country. In this time of adversity, our love and concern for our nation should come out,” Pabillo said in his homily at the San Felipe Neri Parish in Mandaluyong City.

The bishop expressed disappointment about the government’s apparent lack of plan to address the pandemic.

“What makes it even more saddening is that the government does not show a believable way to resolve the pandemic’s health and economic issues. Instead, Congress and Senate are pushing for death penalty,” he said.

“Some government officials even blame our health workers for supposedly not doing their job well or accuse them of planning to bring the government down. Our country is embarrassing right now,” he added.
