MANILA, Philippines — The Armed Forces of the Philippines confirmed on Sunday the death of a senior military officer believed to be due from the coronavirus.

We have yet to receive official medical reports that would reveal the cause of death, other than the erstwhile symptoms suggest COVID-19.”

Navy chief Vice Adm. Giovanni Carlo Bacordo confirmed that the military officer was a Navy captain. As of Aug. 8, the AFP had 473 active cases while 10 have died.
