4 more areas in Baguio placed under lockdown

MANILA, Philippines — Four more areas in Baguio City were placed under lockdown for having new COVID-19, Mayor Benjamin Magalong said on Sunday.

Magalong posted on Sunday a copy of his order on his Facebook page, which placed under lockdown Chapis Village of Barangay Bakakeng Central and Barangays Brookspoint, Irisan, and Pinget.

“The local COVID-19 Task Force has been informed that our most recent COVID-19 confirmed cases are residents of the above-named barangays,” Magalong said in the order.

“In order to facilitate complete and efficient contact tracing, and to ensure the safety and security of persons who may have come into contact with these new confirmed cases, I am ordering an immediate lockdown effective today until further notice,” he added.

Magalong issued the order after confirming that a 71-year-old patient from Bakakeng Central had died, and hours after, he also ordered the lockdown of Cypress Point in Barangay Irisan.

With the order, there are now a total of 21 areas under lockdown, including the following:

Baguio has been hailed for its contact tracing work, which has helped the city minimize the number of COVID-19 infections, prompting the national government to appoint Magalong as the country’s contact tracing czar.

Magalong previously said that only 0.68 percent of 600 local government units who have responded to the government’s assessment had a relatively good contact tracing system
