PHILIPPINE Team bowler Biboy Rivera started his bid against local bowlers as the first day of 13th Bowlingplex Tenpin Association (BTA) Cebu Sinulog Open and the first National Bowling Tour of the BTA got going at the Gaisano Bowlingplex yesterday.
Although a top contender, Rivera said he hopes to play well to avoid falling against local bets who are banking on their handicap points against rated players.
Rivera is excited in his comeback bid in Cebu after missing a lot of major tournaments in the past five years.
“There’s a lot more to do here in Cebu than just bowling, that’s why I miss competing here,” said the 37-year-old World Bowling champion and Asian Games gold medalist.
He said this tournament serves as his tune-up for his upcoming stint this summer in the Dubai Open and the Malaysia International Tournament.
Meanwhile, BTA president Bede Llano said 20 teams coming from Manila, Davao, Cavite, Cebu, Bacolod and Iloilo will compete in the team event that started yesterday.
Among the top names in the event are Rivera are Jeffrey Carabeo, Rauol Miranda, Benshir Layoso, Lara Posadas and Lisa Clutario. CORRESPONDENT DALE G. ROSAL
