TAGBILARAN CITY –– A resident of Bien Unido town in Bohol succumbed to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19), the fifth in the province since the pandemic started.
Bohol Gov. Arthur Yap, in a Facebook post on Thursday, August 6, said the entire barangay, where the fatality resided, was placed on lockdown while they were conducting contact tracing.
Relatives took the patient to the Garcia Memorial Provincial Hospital in Talibon due to severe cough but the hospital staff referred the patient to Governor Celestino Gallares Hospital (GCGMH) in Tagbilaran City.
The patient died on the way to the hospital and was pronounced dead on arrival by the attending physician.
Swab samples were taken from the patient who turned out positive for COVID-19.
The patient was buried immediately.
Yap urged residents to follow the minimum health protocols, such as wearing a face mask and physical distancing to contain the spread of the virus.
“Stay at home,” he pleaded.
Bohol, which is under modified general community quarantine, has 103 cases of COVID-19, with 27 active, 71 recoveries, and five deaths.
