Work suspended at Bukidnon capitol after coronavirus infects employee

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY—Bukidnon Gov. Jose Maria Zubiri has ordered work suspended at the provincial capitol in Malaybalay City starting on Thursday (Aug. 6) after an employee tested positive for SARS Cov2, the virus that causes the yet incurable COVID-19.

Zubiri issued the order through a memo.

In a statement, the governor’s office said the infected employee was a 42-year-old woman who has not shown symptoms but is now on quarantine.

Zubiri had ordered the testing of the provincial government’s 3,688 employees through reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction, which detects antigens instead of antibodies. Antigens are foreign matters inside the human body that include viruses.

No date was given for the reopening of the provincial capitol.
