OVP opens additional dorms for frontliners in Metro Manila during MECQ

MANILA, Philippines — The Office of the Vice President (OVP) once again opened new free dormitories for health workers and frontliners as public transportation ban has been in effect again in Metro Manila due to the modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) status.
According to a post on Vice President Leni Robredo’s Facebook page on Thursday, the latest dormitory to be opened was in Novaliches, Quezon City, which lies near hospitals in the Commonwealth and Fairview areas.
As of now, five dormitories are operational across Metro Manila, through OVP’s Angat Buhay program and their private partners.
“Ang Dorm 5 ay matatagpuan sa Novaliches, at malapit sa Commonwealth Hospital, FEU Hospital – Marian Medical Arts Building, at Neopolitan General Hospital,” Robredo said.

“Bukas po ang ating dorms para sa mga health workers, medical practitioners at iba pang frontliners tulad ng mga security guards, at iba pang volunteers sa mga programa kaugnay sa laban sa COVID-19,” she added.

The OVP would be accepting applicants to their free dorm service on a first-come, first-serve basis due to the limited amount of beds.
The OVP’s free shuttle and dormitories were made available again after President Rodrigo Duterte placed Metro Manila, Bulacan, Rizal, Cavite, and Laguna under an MECQ due to the rising COVID-19 cases in these areas.
As of now, COVID-19 cases in the country are still rising, with the Department of Health reporting 3,561 new infections bringing the total to 119,460 cases — of which 2,150 have died while 66,837 have recovered.
