MANILA, Philippines — Mandaluyong’s city government has imposed another liquor ban in light of the modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) status over Metro Manila and nearby provinces.
According to a post on the official Facebook page of the Mandaluyong Public Information Office (PIO) on Thursday, the liquor ban was approved by Mayor Mechie Abalos on Wednesday, August 5.
The liquor ban will run until the MECQ status expires on August 18.
“Kasalukuyang umiiral po ang LIQUOR BAN sa ating Lungsod sa bisa po ng inaprubahan ni Mayor Menchie Abalos na Ordinance No. 790, S-2020. Ito po ay habang nasa ilalim ng MECQ o ECQ ang ating lungsod,” Mandaluyong PIO said.
“Inasahan po ang pagsunod ng lahat sa nasabing Ordinansa,” they added.
Mandaluyong is the latest city in Metro Manila to place a liquor ban after President Rodrigo Duterte approved the proposal to put the National Capital Region, Bulacan, Rizal, Cavite, and Laguna under the MECQ due to rising COVID-19 cases.
Quezon City and San Juan, aside from Navotas and Malabon, have also placed liquor bans of their own.
COVID-19 cases in the country are still rising, with the Department of Health reporting 3,561 new infections bringing the total to 119,460 cases — of which 2,150 have died while 66,837 have recovered.
