LUCENA CITY –– Two firemen in Quezon province have contracted the coronavirus disease (COVID-19), local authorities said.

Lucban Mayor Olivier Dator revealed that his town’s Patient No. 6 is a 33-year-old woman assigned to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BDFP) in Lucena City, the provincial capital.

The patient is a resident of Barangay Ayuti of Lucban.

Dator said he had tasked the barangay officials to implement a lockdown on some parts of the village and to conduct an aggressive contact tracing.

In Mulanay town, its third COVID-19 patient is also a fireman assigned to the neighboring Catanauan town.

Mayor Jay Tito Ojeda II said the patient is a 27-year old male and resident of Barangay Latangan. The asymptomatic patient is now under the care of the local government’s Temporary Treatment and Monitoring Facility.

“Don’t panic. Observe all safety protocols,” Ojeda appealed on his social media on Wednesday afternoon.

Ojeda said authorities had located all individuals who made contact with the patient and are now under quarantine.

Dr. Ronacleta Oblefias, head of BFP-Quezon emergency medical services, said all personnel at the provincial station, where the patient from Lucban is assigned, and at the Catanauan station, have been placed under home quarantine.

“But there are some who are quarantined at the station as skeletal force,” she said in a phone interview on Thursday.
