Cloud bands to bring rains in Bicol, Visayas — Pagasa

MANILA, Philippines — The cloud bands lying within the convergence of winds east in the country are expected to bring isolated and moderate to heavy rains in Bicol Region and parts of Visayas, state meteorologists said.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) updates as of 5:00 p.m. showed that they spotted thunderstorm activity in the said areas due to the winds from the northern and southern hemispheres.

Meanwhile, the low pressure area being monitored near Mindanao has already crossed the landmass and is currently located 265 kilometers south southeast of Puerto Princesa in Palawan.  As of now, Pagasa says there is a low chance that the LPA would develop into a storm.

“Asahan po natin sa mga susunod na oras ay meron po tayong mga minsan na malalakas na pag-ulan associated sa thunderstorm dito sa may Bicol Region gayundin sa may eastern part of Visayas,” weather specialist Benison Estareja said.

(We can expect that in the coming hours, areas in the Bicol Region and the eastern part of Visayas may experience occasional, strong rains associated with thunderstorm activity in the area.)

“Meron din tayong nakikitang mga thunderstorm na mabubuo overnight dito sa may western portion ng Visayas, and maging dito sa may Cebu, at kitang-kita rin natin may mga nabubuo ditong thunderstorm sa may parteng central portion of Mindanao, at dito sa Mimaropa especially dito sa Palawan,” he added.

(We also see thunderstorms that may be formed overnight here in the western portion of Visayas, and also in Cebu, and the forming of thunderstorms near the central portion of Mindanao and in Mimaropa especially in Palawan are also visible.)

Despite the rains brought by the cloud bands and the LPA, Pagasa says that no new low pressure areas or storms were seen inside or near the Philippine area of responsibility.

Parts of Southern Luzon would see cloudy skies and rains, leading to temperatures of 22 to 30 degrees Celsius in Tagaytay, 24 to 30 degrees in Legazpi, and 25 to 30 degrees in Puerto Princesa.  In Manila, it may be cloudy with a high chance of thunderstorms despite temperatures playing around 25 to 33 degrees.

In Visayas, temperatures may range from 25 to 31 degrees in Iloilo City, 25 to 32 degrees in Cebu, 24 to 30 degrees in Tacloban; while in Mindanao, it may be around 24 to 32 degrees in Cagayan de Oro, and 24 to 33 degrees in Davao City.
