15 new cases bring to 997 total number downed by COVID-19 in Eastern Visayas

TACLOBAN CITY –– At least 15 new cases of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) were registered in Eastern Visayas on Tuesday, bringing the total number of cases in the region to 997.

Among the new cases was a 14-year-old girl from Calbayog City in Samar, who was also suffering from an undisclosed ailment.

The girl was confined at the Eastern Visayas Regional Medical Center (EVRMC) along with a 24-year-old woman from Tacloban City.

Dr. Gloria Fabrigas, health officer of Tacloban City, said the woman had just given birth to a baby last Sunday, August 2, at the EVRMC.

As part of the health protocols, a swab sample was extracted from the woman.

The result showed that she was positive for the virus.

Tacloban City has five COVID-19 cases.

The other new cases in Eastern Visayas came from the town of Liloan, Paranas, Samar, Gandara, Carigara, and Barugo.

These involved locally stranded individuals who returned to their respective hometowns.
