COVID-19 infections in PH reach over 100K as DOH records 5,032 more cases

MANILA, Philippines — The new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) has infected 103,185 people in the country after the Department of Health (DOH) recorded 5,032 more cases.

Of the 5,032 new cases, 2,114 are “fresh cases” while 2,918 are “late cases.” Of the total number of cases, 35,569 are active cases, DOH also noted.

The latest tally of additional COVID-19 cases is so far the highest single-day increase followed by 4,963 newly-reported cases on Saturday.

DOH also reported 65,557 total recoveries in the country. This includes 301 new survivors.

Twenty more people succumbed to respiratory illness, pushing the COVID-19 death toll to 2,059.

Of the total deaths, 14 happened in July 3, three in June and three in May.

Of the newly-reported cases, 2,737 are from Metro Manila; 463 from Cavite; 449 from Cebu; 326 from Laguna; and 201 from Rizal.

Of the 2,737 new cases in the National Capital Region, 569 are from Quezon City while 379 are from Manila.

DOH also noted 79 duplicated cases which were removed from the total case count. Of the 79, eight were recoveries that were also removed.

The coronavirus disease is caused by the novel coronavirus which outbreak was first reported in Wuhan City, Hubei province of China in December last year.

The respiratory ailment causes mild or moderate symptoms such as fever and cough for most people.

It may cause serious illness such as pneumonia to older adults and people with existing health issues.
