Duterte to meet with key Cabinet members to tackle call for ECQ in Mega Manila

MANILA, Philippines — President Rodrigo Duterte is set to meet with key Cabinet members on Sunday to discuss the call of medical frontliners  to place Mega Manila under a two-week enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) period.

This was confirmed by Palace spokesman Harry Roque on Twitter.

“The President will meet with key cabinet members today to discuss yesterday’s letter from the frontliners,” Roque said.

“I will make the proper announcement in due course,” he added.

A group of medical frontliners on Saturday urged the government to return Mega Manila to stricter lockdown measures for two weeks.

The two-week ECQ period will serve as a “time out to recalibrate the government’s COVID-19 response.”

Malacañang earlier said that Duterte has directed the Inter-Agency Task Force for Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) to act on the concerns of the frontliners immediately.

As of Saturday, the Philippines has 98,232 coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases, with 65,265 recoveries and 2,039 deaths.
