MANILA, Philippines — Two workers assigned to the office of House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano have contracted the coronavirus disease, pushing the total COVID-19 tally at the House of Representatives to 28.

“Two (2) employees assigned at the Office of the Speaker tested positive for COVID-19. Both last reported for work on July 16 and got tested on July 25 after experiencing some symptoms,” House Secretary General Attorney Jose Luis Montales said in a statement on Saturday.

Montales advised the public to be cautious as the virus spread in workplaces and communities.

“We reiterate that we shouldn’t let our guard down. We now face higher risk because the virus has spread in homes, workplaces, and communities. Please be extra cautious,” he said.

As of August 1, the Philippines recorded a total of 98,232 coronavirus disease cases. This included 65,265 recoveries and 2,039 deaths.
