MANILA, Philippines — The number of coronavirus disease infections in the Philippines rose to 98,232 with 4,963 additional cases of COVID-19, the Department of Health (DOH) said Saturday.
Of the total cases, 93 more recoveries boosted the total tally of survivors to 65,265 while 17 additional deaths pushed the death toll to 2,039.
The latest cases were reported by tests from 74 out of 94 current operational laboratories, DOH said.

Of the newly-reported cases, the health department said 2,667 were from Metro Manila; 405 from Cavite province; 355 from Cebu; 324 from Laguna while 252 from Rizal.
Meanwhile, DOH said recent deaths occurred in July and June. Of the 17, 13 happened in July while four in June.
DOH, likewise, reported 85 “duplicates” that were removed from the total case count. Of the 85, six were recoveries while one is a case of a fatality.
COVID-19 outbreak first emerged in Wuhan City, Hubei province of China in December 2019.
The respiratory disease is caused by novel coronavirus or SARS-CoV-2. Its virus causes mild or moderate symptoms such as fever and cough for most people.
The virus may cause serious illness such as pneumonia to older adults and people with underlying health issues.
