Ilocos Sur bars entry of migrant workers, stranded residents until Aug. 14

DAGUPAN CITY – The province of Ilocos Sur has closed its doors to locally stranded individuals (LSIs) and returning Filipino workers (RWFs) from August 1 to August 14, following a spike in cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) infections in the past days.

Records of the Provincial Health Office show that 31 new patients have tested positive for the disease from July 26-29.

The Ilocos Sur Provincial Hospital – Gabriela Silang suspended its out-patient services due to the sudden surge, although it would continue to respond to emergency cases.

Twelve of the 31 Ilocos Sur patients are from Vigan City; while 12 others have been recorded in Candon City, and the towns of Bantay, Magsingal, and Narvacan. The rest of the new patients come from the municipalities of Caoayan, Sta. Catalina, Santiago, Sta. Lucia and Sta. Maria.

Ilocos Sur is under a Modified General Community Quarantine.
