MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Friday two to three storms are expected to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) for the month of August.

In its weather bulletin, Pagasa said based on previous data, storms entering the country in the month of August do not usually make a landfall.

In cases they make a landfall, they usually hit the northern Luzon or extreme northern Luzon region, said Pagasa.

(Just because storms in the month of August do not usually make a landfall does it mean that it would not have a direct effect on the country because there are instances when they enhance the southwest monsoon which brings rain showers especially in the western part of the country.)

Pagasa said 70 provinces in the country will experience “near normal” amount of rainfall for the month of August while 11 provinces are seen to have “above normal,” while only one province is expected to have below normal rainfall.
