TACLOBAN CITY –– Eastern Visayas has registered 57 fresh cases of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) on Thursday, the highest single-day tally in the region since the pandemic started.
Based on the report of the Department of Health (DOH), seven towns in the region recorded their first COVID-19 cases with the town of Mapanas in Northern Samar having the youngest patient.
Joe Louis Gajutos, disaster risk reduction management officer of Mapanas, said the nine-month-old baby boy was placed in an isolation facility with his parents, who are both asymptomatic.
The boy had been reportedly coughing since they arrived in Mapanas last July 20 from Quezon City.

Leyte has the most number of infections at 518, followed by Samar (211), Southern Leyte (113), Northern Samar (40), Biliran (35), and Eastern Samar (3).
