Pagasa: Wet, rainy Friday expected due to ‘habagat’

MANILA, Philippines — Monsoon rains will prevail in five Luzon provinces due to the “habagat” or southwest monsoon, the state weather bureau said Friday.

In its 4 a.m. live weather update, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said that the “habagat” will trigger rains in  Zambales, Bataan, Palawan, Occidental Mindoro and Oriental Mindoro.

“So yung mga nabanggit natin na lalawigan ay makakaranas po ‘yan ng pag-ulan at may mga pagkakataon po na kapag pagdating ng umaga ay tumitigil yung pag-ulan, and then nagre-resume po pagdating ng hapon hanggang gabi, may pagkakataon pa ng madaling araw,” weather specialist Samuel Duran said in the live weather update regarding the four areas affected by the monsoon rains.

(In the said provinces, rains may be intermittent in the morning and will possibly resume in the afternoon until night time, and may even extend until early morning the next day.)

Pagasa cautioned residents in the affected provinces of the possibility of flash floods and landslides.

Meanwhile, cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms will prevail in Metro Manila, Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Soccsksargen, Davao region, and the rest of Luzon also due to the “habagat”.

Partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers and thunderstorms are expected over the rest of Mindanao likewise due to the “habagat” and localized thunderstorms.
