THE SACRED HEART School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) golfers will try to make a splash in a pond filled with the big fish as the Samsung Interscholastic Golf Championships begins today with 16 schools clashing for top honors in various divisions at the north of the Canlubang Golf and Country Club in Laguna.
La Salle Green Hills goes for back-to-back overall championship in the 11th staging of the annual event sponsored but faces a tough challenge from just about every school with souped-up roster in the high school category.
Competition is also expected to be fierce in collegiate play with La Salle, likewise, out to repeat its three-point victory over arch rival Ateneo last year in the 54-hole tournament, a five-to-play, three-to-count event played under the Modified Stableford (Molave) scoring system.
St. Paul’s College-Pasig will be the team to beat in the college/high school girls side while Assumption College shoots for its title-retention bid in the grade-school girls’ category of the event.
Other schools competing are Brent International School, St. Benilde, De La Salle-Zobel, Don Bosco College, Miriam College, St. Pedro Poveda College, Southville Foreign University, Xavier School and Young Ji International School. /Correspondent Jonas Panerio
