MRT-3 reschedules weekend suspension of operations to October, November

MANILA, Philippines — The Metro Rail Transit-3 has rescheduled its weekend suspension of operations for rail replacement works from August-September, to October-November.

In a statement on Thursday, MRT-3 said the rescheduling was made upon the recommendation of its maintenance service provider Sumitomo-MHI-TESP.

“According to Sumitomo-MHI-TESP, this is due to travel restrictions being imposed by countries to prevent the spread of COVID-19,” the MRT-3 management said.

From August 8 to 9 and 21 to 23, and September 12 to 13, the suspended weekend operations will be moved to October 10 to 11, October 31, November 1 to 2, and November 14 to 15.

Sumitomo-MHI-TESP has assured that this rescheduling will not affect the target completion of the rail replacement by the end of September 2020, and the increase of train speed to 40 kilometers per hour in October, 50 kilometers per hour by November, and 60 kilometers per hour by December 2020.
