Aquino happy with prosecution in Corona impeachment trial
MANILA, Philippines—President Benigno Aquino III said Friday he was satisfied with the performance of the House prosecution panel in the impeachment trial of Chief Justice Renato Corona.
Mr. Aquino’s statement was in contrast to observations by some in the media that former Supreme Court Justice Serafin Cuevas, Corona’s chief defense counsel, was getting the better of the prosecutors, including his former student Cavite Rep. Elpidio Barzaga.
“They were able to bring out what needed to be brought out and place on record what needed to be placed on record,” Mr. Aquino told reporters at a news briefing in Malacañang.
The President said he expects better performance by the prosecution in the coming days.
“I believe that in the coming days, we would really be able to show how easy it is to come out with the truth, so our panel would be performing much better,” he said.
