BOC-Naia seizes P4.5 M shabu stashed in biscuit cans

MANILA, Philippines — The Bureau of Customs – Ninoy Aquino International Airport (BOC-Naia)  seized some P4.5 million worth of “shabu” stashed inside two cans of chocolate wafers.

In a statement on Thursday, the BOC-Naia said that the illegal drugs were seized last July 22 while Customs examiners were conducting a physical examination of unclaimed cargoes at the Naia Customs bonded warehouses.

The seized drugs were consigned to a resident of Hagonoy, who was not identified. The package was sent from Las Vegas, Nevada, the BOC-Naia said.

Field tests conducted by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) also confirmed the white crystalline substance as shabu.

Aside from the two cans of chocolate wafers, where the illegal drugs were hidden, the BOC-Naia also found chocolates, a stuffed toy, candy, slippers, and socks inside the examined cargo.

The confiscated drugs were turned over to the PDEA for further profiling and case build-up .
