20th petition filed against terror law

/ 04:37 AM July 29, 2020

Nine student leaders from Cebu City filed on Tuesday the 20th petition against the Anti-Terrorism Act of 2020 that took effect less than a fortnight ago.

The latest petitioners were from Cebu Normal University, University of the Philippines Cebu, University of San Carlos, the University of Cebu and the Center for Youth Participation and Development Initiatives.

The student activists told the Supreme Court that they were responding to the challenge posed by Jose Rizal to the youth in his novel, El Filibusterismo.

Terrorism is a “menace to society that must be quashed, however there has to be effective mechanisms in place to prevent despicable acts from taking place,” the students said in their 70-page petition that they personally filed before the Supreme Court. INQ
