MANILA, Philippines — Some of the transport infrastructure projects mentioned by President Rodrigo Duterte in his fifth State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Monday are on track for completion, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) said on Tuesday, with the administration making it clear it would lean on these big-ticket projects to create jobs for those displaced by the pandemic.
Although these projects may take time to be realized like the Metro Manila Subway project and Philippine National Railways Clark Phase 1, which broke ground only last year, the DOTr said work would go on despite the movement limitations due to the coronavirus.
Duterte had said during his SONA that the projects would help improve people’s lives after the economy was battered by the pandemic.
