SAN ANTONIO, Zambales — The plan to use testing and quarantine facilities inside the Subic Bay Freeport for repatriated Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) have not been finalized, officials said.
Wilma Eisma, chair of the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA), on Sunday said officials from the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration and the Philippine Ports Authority this week have revived the talks for the proposal.
“But as I said, it is a sensitive matter and final plans have to be solid before we agree,” Eisma told the Inquirer.
Eisma said she would also need to get the approval of the SBMA board on the matter once the safety protocols have been formed.
The plan was met with mixed reactions from residents in nearby Olongapo City.
Former Olongapo City Mayor Rolen Paulino Sr. said neighboring communities should be consulted first since the move would directly affect the residents around the free port.
