2 kids among latest COVID-19 patients in Quezon

LUCENA CITY – Two children were among the latest coronavirus disease (COVID-19)  patients in Guinayangan town in Quezon province, local officials disclosed on Saturday.

The municipal government of Guinayangan revealed on social media that the two young patients, whose ages were not disclosed, were the child and grandchild, respectively, of two virus carriers in the locality.

The town has logged a total of 18 cases but only the first patient has recovered.

On July 22, Dr. Annabel T. Ardiente, Guinayangan municipal health officer, disclosed that Patient #2 to Patient #16 came from one family.

“They are all relatives,” Ardiente told the Inquirer.

The local government has placed nine barangays under lockdown until July 31 to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

As of noon Saturday, at least nine more new COVID-19 cases were recorded in Quezon, bringing the total number of confirmed virus carriers in the province to 273.

Newly confirmed virus carriers were reported in Lucena City and Candelaria town, also with two each; and one each in the towns of Pagbilao, Mauban, and Alabat, the Quezon public information office said in a bulletin.

The Mauban Inter-Agency Task Force identified the locality’s first patient as a 32-year-old male local government worker.

Quezon recorded 189 recoveries and 15 deaths. The province still has 69 active virus carriers.
