LUCENA CITY – Out of 41 municipalities in Quezon province, only 10 remain coronavirus (COVID-19)-free after Mauban recorded its first confirmed virus carrier on Saturday, according to provincial authorities.
Aside from the first COVID-19 patient from Mauban, two other new cases were recorded in Guinayangan town, the Quezon Public Information Office said in its 8 a.m. report.
Only the towns of General Nakar, Plaridel, San Francisco, San Narciso, Tagkawayan, San Andres and the island municipalities of Jomalig, Burdeos, Quezon and Panukulan remain COVID-19 free since the pandemic erupted in early March.
The town of Guinayangan logged a total of 18 cases with only one recovery. The town, located in the province’s fourth district, tops the list of municipalities in Quezon with the most active virus carriers at 17 patients, followed by Lucena City with seven.
The local government of Guinayangan placed nine barangays under lockdown until July 31 to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
On Friday, Lucena, the capital city of the province, recorded its second COVID-19 fatality. The first mortality was recorded on July 22.
Lucena logged a total of 90 validated virus carriers with 81 recoveries.
Quezon, still under the modified general community quarantine, now has 267 COVID-19 cases, with 189 recoveries and 14 deaths. The province still has 63 active virus carriers.
