Cop gunned down inside Ecija town village hall

SAN ANTONIO, Nueva Ecija—A police officer, who was recently reassigned here, was gunned down inside a village hall on Thursday (July 23), police said.

The officer was identified as MSgt Bert Reyes, resident of Maugat village here.

The assailant, according to initial investigation, entered the village hall of Luyos and shot Reyes past 10 a.m.

Reyes, a former intelligence officer, was assigned to man a checkpoint here after serving in the Cabiao town police and the provincial police office.

A village official and a local peacekeeper were with the victim when the attack happened.

A special investigation task force was created to look into the attack.
