Remulla suspends Cavite mall’s operations for quarantine violation

MANILA, Philippines — Cavite Governor Jonvic Remulla has ordered the suspension of operations of SM City Trece Martires for allegedly violating quarantine rules.

In a Facebook post on Friday, Remulla said he ordered undercover police officers to inspect malls on Wednesday in Cavite province and found the retail giant “directly violating” the province’s quarantine pass policy.

“Isang video ang aking natanggap kung saan makikita ang direktang paglabag ng SM City Trece Martires sa Q-Pass Policy ng Cavite,” he said.

“Dahil dito ay nag-issue ako ng isang executive order suspending the operations of SM City Trece Martires until further notice,” Remulla added.

Remulla noted that Cavite never stopped the use of quarantine passes to limit the number of people in places of convergence where they normally get the coronavirus disease 2019.

He stressed that guidelines are “meant to put order into controlling the pandemic situation.”

“For those who think that the worst is over, you are mistaken. It is going to get worse before things get better,” he said.

“Collective responsibility means if we arrest the small people in the streets for face mask violation or public intoxication, then we should also close down the big malls if they violate the Q-Pass Policy set by the LGU (local government unit). The rule applies to EVERYONE,” added the governor.

As of July 20, Cavite has a total of 1,101 COVID-19 cases, with 364 recoveries and 55 deaths.
