18 COVID-19-infected Bulacan inmates in isolation
CITY OF MALOLOS—Eighteen elderly inmates and three prison guards in the provincial jail were isolated on Wednesday after they tested positive for the new coronavirus disease (COVID-19), authorities here said.
Marcos Rivero, Bulacan provincial warden, said the inmates and guards could have been exposed to a jail employee who tested positive for the virus last week.
The 18 inmates, age 60 to 70, had fever and were placed on quarantine at one of the cells.
The three guards, who showed no symptoms but were on duty with their infected colleague, were isolated at the local governance center inside the capitol compound.
Rivero had banned visits to the jail since March to prevent the spread of the virus. —CARMELA REYES-ESTROPE
