LOOK: Director Joyce Bernal prepares at Batasang Pambansa for SONA 2020
MANILA, Philippines — Director Joyce Bernal visited the House of Representatives on Thursday to prepare for President Rodrigo Duterte’s penultimate State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Monday, July 27.
This will be the third straight year that Bernal, known for her blockbuster comedy and romantic comedy films, will direct the SONA.
According to Bernal, this year’s preparation for SONA was both simpler and more complicated due to the pandemic.

“Nag-pre-record na kami ng iba. So everything is pre-recorded except for the speech ng President kasi para bawas tao (We have pre-recorded some shots. Everything will be pre-recorded except for the President’s speech so there would be fewer people here),” Bernal told reporters.
“So dati may choir—bawas tao—tapos pati ‘yung mga magp-pray bawas tao so pre-recorded (Before there are choirs and those leading the prayer but we are decreasing the number of people here so it will be pre-recorded),” the director added.
Unlike the previous years, Bernal said she had more time to prepare the visuals for this year’s SONA which may be flashed during Duterte’s speech.
Bernal also shared that there may also be changes in the camera shots since the number of people inside the Batasang Pambansa is limited, thus using huge equipment may not be possible since this would require more people to operate.
What can the public expect? Bernal said the feel would be “Pinoy na Pinoy.”
